Meet our volunteers

Our volunteers are ordinary (but amazing) people from all walks of life who help us to deliver free, confidential, impartial and independent advice and information on a wide range of subjects to Manchester residents. Read some of the reasons they chose to give their time to Citizens Advice Manchester.

Norman's story

I had just retired and wanted to change the direction of my life. I heard an advert for Citizens Advice on the radio. So I applied to be a volunteer and started my role soon after.

I was amazed at the scope of information and advice that they provided and realised that I could contribute to this as well as developing my own skills and knowledge. A lot of people tend to think that they reach the top of their learning skills. I found that as a part of Citizens Advice Manchester you will be trained to do things which you never thought possible!

Norman has been volunteering with us for 26 years now!

Alice's story

I had just finished working on a temporary contract and I felt in limbo as to what to do next. I knew I wanted to develop new skills to enhance my employability, but I also wanted to be able to give something back at the same time.

I started volunteering at the Town Hall drop in service helping people to access advice and information online. Although this role was face to face, it gave me a good understanding of the problems people can have and where to help them to look online to find the answers they need. This really helped me when I had progressed through my training and decided to develop my skills further as a Telephone Triage Assessor.

Daniel's story

I worked part time and found myself getting bored on my days off so looked for something I could do to counteract this. My friend worked for Citizens Advice Manchester and told me about the volunteer opportunities that were available.

I applied to Citizens Advice Manchester because I knew that every day would be different from the last one and that this would make my volunteering more interesting and varied. Also, knowing that I would be making a real difference to people’s lives is another reason I chose Citizens Advice Manchester.
